Looking for a Chiropractor that can help with your neck pain in Chatswood, NSW?
James Zheng (Chiropractor) has helped many patients with neck pain and is aware that it is an all too common ailment. Many people will suffer with an episode of neck pain in their life. Many times it starts suddenly and just as quickly as it appeared it may disappear without need for any type of treatment (sometimes after a long day sitting at a computer). However, this is not the case for everyone. Some people may suffer recurrent episodes or neck pain that feels debilitating and doesn't seem to let up or go away. Neck pain can also be associated with having arm pain and headaches.
There are other causes of neck pain besides spending too long on a computer, examples of this could be overall poor posture or onset following a road traffic accident. When treating a patient with neck pain at Lower North Shore Chiropractic, diagnosis is key to solving the problem. There are many distinct types of neck pain. The following are the three most common we see here at the clinic:
‘Mechanical’ neck pain. This refers to pain that is not related to any underlying medical condition, there are no trapped or damaged nerves. Patient may have muscular and ligamentous involvement as well as the joint itself. Causes of this range from Poor posture or sitting position.
‘Arthritic’ neck pain. This refers to wear and tear in the joints, intervertebral discs narrow causing stiffness and pain.
‘Post traumatic neck pain’. Following a sports injury, automobile accident or a minor fall/knock to the head and neck can prompt pain. Whiplash often results in damage to the soft tissues of the neck.
In a less common situation, nerves may be trapped, compressed or irritated. There are many factors that can cause this to occur including wear and tear and damaged discs. Pain may radiate into the arm and shoulder. Other symptoms may include a pins and needles sensation or numbness and weakness in the arm and hand.
